History of the Whizzopet Shampoo

We have been dog people, animal lovers since childhood. Over the years we have come across all types of dogs! A dirty dog, a soaked dog, a muddy dog, a dog with a skin condition, a dog with allergic skin symptoms, even a knotted-haired kitten. Shampoo has to deal with quite a few things, multiple types of impurities, skin and hair problems in everyday life, the “cure”  which requires completely different types of recipes and different approaches to formulas. Not only are there different skin types, we have to take into consideration the different fur types and even different breeds. Fur comes in all textures and length, there’s thick-thin, short-long-haired, single-layer or double fur, colors, shiny or matte shades of fur, Puli, German shepherd, Bulldog, Persian and Siamese. Due to the variety of the skin types, fur types, and breeds, it has been an extremely difficult challenge to create a shampoo that satisfies every need equally, all with a completely natural ingredient panel. The real challenge was the complexity of the task, which we made even more difficult with the intention of bathing very easily, quickly and efficiently with a proper dosing method and setting the ideal foaming efficiency, because let’s face it, not all animals like to bathe in the tub for long periods of time. Sometimes bathing is considered a bad experience due to some dogs being afraid of water or just afraid of the bath experience in general. This is understandable, we took this into consideration and we realize not all owners like to have their dog endure this for a long period of time.

So what are the expectations for the formula:

EFFICIENT CLEANING

Challenge:

In order for a shampoo to clean well the formulation must know many cunning tricks to be able to cope with all types of impurities. There are also impurities with hydrophilic (water-soluble) and lipophilic (fat-soluble) properties. The former (formula?) includes all the environmental-natural influences that your pet encounters, the latter includes the natural, often heavily contaminated layer of fatty fat on the skin, and any oily-greasy contamination that our pet encounters around the house.

A mixture of surfactants should therefore be used which, in addition to:

  • gentle on skin, hair, and does not irritate
  • natural
  • does not dry out the skin/fur

In addition, it is strong enough to dissolve all types of contaminants on the skin / hair with all chemical characteristics.

Solution:

Nonionic surfactants from coconut and sugar. An optimal mixture of Decyl Glucoside and Lauryl Glucoside. The right combination of the right foaming power, the right cleaning efficiency and the right density. It is the result of a lot of experimenting that we are very proud of.

Scent

Challenge:

When we bathe an animal, we all already know the dreaded “smell of a drenched dog” or the “smell of a soaked kitten”, although they may differ from species to species, it is agreed that it is caused by the unique composition of natural compounds on the skin of the animals, which are also components of the acid mantle, they are secreted and delivered to the skin surface by the glands in the skin. When the animal is washed, some of these substances leave, some parts stay on the skin. This causes the specific “soaked animal” odor that cannot be confused with other odors. In the case of a shampoo, as the animal’s entire body and fur are washed, it is very important that it contains a fragrance efficient enough to mask the difficult odor but not be full of allergens. Not all types or fragrances are capable of this, so finding this was a challenge in itself, we also were trying to do this using the most natural source without the use of synthetic scents.

Solution:

We have worked with a huge range of natural volatiles and fragrances, and the range of volatiles that are ideal for the task, such as naturalness, strength, allergen-free and long-term stability, has been clarified and developed. We found three such volatiles, but since we couldn’t decide we went ahead with all three fragrances giving you the choice to decide which one you like best.

PROPER PH

Challenge:

The natural pH of a dog’s skin is between 5.5 and 7.2. The surface of healthy skin has a slightly acidic pH that helps deal with the pathogens our dogs encounter on a daily basis. A dog is constantly in contact with pathogens, their entire body but especially their paws are in constant contact with the ground. The full range of microorganisms, like bacteria to fungi to protozoa and even viruses, all in terms of their cunning tools, are looking for a suitable host for their growth. A microbiologically calm, peaceful place with a constant ideal body temperature is best suited. The surface of the hair and skin is very suitable for this purpose in many cases. As the outer cover is the body’s primary line of defense and one of its most important weapons is to maintain a slightly acidic pH, it is important that the substances that come into contact with the skin / hair from the outside do not alter the skin’s natural coat in the long term an do not affect the function of the organs responsible for the formation of the acid mantle. Traditional SLS, SLES, Cocamide DEA based shampoos, if not properly formulated, can be just like that and in many cases only clean properly in the alkaline range. Additional concerns are that they also have significant skin irritation potential, are largely of synthetic origin, and are anionic in nature. So during the development we had to find a naturally occurring non-ionic surfactant with good cleaning and foaming properties, even in a slightly acidic range, which had to be embedded in a suitable formulation where it was stable and worked well with the other active ingredients.

Solution:

Use of sugar surfactants called glucosides. These types of surfactants are derived from the reaction of sugar and coconut oil in general, are nonionic in nature and have very good skin tolerance. They foam very well even in the slightly acidic range and have a good cleaning power. They can even be used on sensitive skin. Decyl glucoside and lauryl glucoside were adjusted to the product formula in a synergistic concentration ratio, so that both foaming and density has been adjusted to a near-optimal condition. There were countless hours of work put into it to be developed just right.

EASY APPLICATION

Challenge:

Foam the shampoo as quickly as possible and wash out of the fur quickly, so you do not need to continuously rinse the remnants of the undercoat for long periods of time.

Solution:

Foaming bottle and proper surfactant ratio, the winning pair! The special foaming head mixes air bubbles with the absorbed shampoo under the effect of strong pressure, so that it is immediately applied to the fur or our hand in the form of a concentrated super foam. This way the rubbing process can be carried out very efficiently and quickly with minimal water. Thanks to the properly adjusted surfactant ratio, rinsing will also go extremely fast.

IRRITATION or ALLERGY?

If there is an active ingredient that is very effective for something, but it’s irritant potential is too high, or the substance is synthetic or contains a high proportion of allergens, we exclude these substances at the beginning of the development process and look for a natural alternative.

This is an expectation on our part, so that way you know you are getting a product that is best suited for your pooch or kitten.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE BATHE?

It depends on the bathing for hygienic or therapeutic purposes.

A pet may need to be bathed for a few reasons. When the pet is dirty/smelly or for general hygiene purposes, therapeutic purposes, an infection on it’s hair and skin, wounds, allergies, dermatitis, fungal, demodectic.

It is very important not to repeat bathing for hygienic purposes often, because frequent bathing can damage the natural microbiome (microbial composition) of the skin,if the substances that support the external skin barrier are constantly washed away, their composition does not perform properly. For hygienic purposes, bathing up to once a month is recommended. Of course, reality overrides this, as an animal will always be amazingly dirty when we don’t even expect it. In this case the recommended bathing frequency is on demand, as the product is safe even with frequent bathing.

If the purpose of the bath is therapeutic, it can be used several times a week, if it is for a localized spot it can be used daily on the affected skin surface. A little more specifically:

In case of irritation, inflammation and injury on a small area of skin, it is advisable to bathe several (2-3) times a week, until the complaints disappear, for a maximum of 3 weeks. If this is not feasible, a thorough rubbing and rinsing of the affected skin area may be sufficient, with a frequency of 3-4 times a week.

In case of irritation, redness, hair loss and itching on a larger skin area, it is recommended to bathe the whole body 2-3 times a week for a maximum of 3 weeks.

WHY IS IT CURATIVE?

It is very simple: because of the number, nature and types of active ingredients, and because they can be used not only for hygienic purposes, but also for the adjunctive treatment of skin and hair problems. Our shampoo contains active ingredients of natural origin (Pro-Comb Complex, Acacia Honey, Aloe Vera Extract, Plant Silicone, Honeyquat, Plant Collagen, Panthenol, Propolis Extract) which does not hurt the skin and hair, but also nourishes and moisturizes. These products also have a soothing and hair-polishing effect, which is not bad for a general bath.

WHAT IS PRO-COMB COMPLEX?

This complex is a mixture of valuable herbal extracts and concentrated compounds of natural skin nourishing and soothing effect, turbocharged with an antioxidant. This combination is a special mixture of synergistic ingredients, and its primary purpose in the product is to clean and care for inflamed, reddened, irritated, damaged skin, as well as to effectively help reduce skin surface irritations.

Chamomile extract

This is something that (no one needs to be introduced)? everyone needs to be introduced to. The chamomile extract we use is a concentrated and rich in active ingredient, and has a very good effect on scarring, inflammation, and irritated skin.

Marigold extract

WHAT OTHER ACTIVE SUBSTANCES ARE  IN THE TONIC?

Let’s see:

Organic Acacia Honey

Acacia honey is derived from the nectar of the Robinia pseudoacacia flower. It contains robinin and acacin, which are also known for their antimicrobial activity. It also supports the skin’s ability to absorb and retain water, enhancing its hydration, resulting in a proper, soft, healthy skin texture.

It may be a legitimate question that acacia honey also contains allergens and pollen. Is it still allowed to be applied to the skin of animals? The answer lies in concentration. The concentration of acacia honey in our shampoos is adjusted so that the amount of allergens naturally present in the honey does not exceed the hypoallergenic concentration limit, but it can exert other beneficial effects of acacia honey. That’s the magic.

Aloe Vera extract

Extracted from aloe vera leaves, the extract, rich in vitamins, trace elements, enzymes and acids, has an exceptional composition; it has a recognized impact all over the world. This plant is already mentioned in the oldest scientific medical studies due to its proven beneficial effects on the human body. Aloe vera gel or extract has a very strong moisturizing effect, astringent and effectively helps to regenerate inflammation. It also helps replenish skin water loss; nourishing, scarring, regenerating, stimulates skin healing and also improves microcirculation. It also has a calming effect and reduces skin irritation and redness. It also stimulates collagen formation. Suitable for all species and breeds of animals, be it sensitive skin, irritated, injured or allergic.

Vegetable silicone

It distributes very well on the skin, providing a pleasant, comfortable feeling, showing good biocompatibility with its lipid layer. It is completely skin-friendly and increases the shine and shine of the coat after bathing.

Honeyquat

An excellent hair conditioner derived from honey. Its low molecular weight allows it to penetrate easily into the coat and provide long-lasting hydration, a healthy look and shine for the fur, while also providing protection against external harmful effects. Incidentally, honeyquat is a cationic (positively charged) active ingredient, this property is important for hair care ingredients, it has a good affinity for keratin, significantly contributing to the improvement of hair structure, it will make the hair fine and light.

Plant collagen

The active ingredient for all skin and hair types, when used in the right concentration, reduces water loss, creates a fine flexible protective layer on the skin, covers the hairs and at the same time has an enriching, strengthening effect on the hairs.

Panthenol

A member of the group of B vitamins, pantothenic acid – vitamin B5 – is an essential element for all life forms. Once in the skin, it is rapidly converted to pantothenic acid, which plays an important role in the activity of cells and tissues. Topical application of preparations containing high concentrations of panthenol can accelerate skin regeneration, improve skin hydration, but is also good for irritated, damaged, peeling skin, caring for sensitive, fragile skin, caring for damaged skin and relieving itching.

Propolis

Propolis is a unique treasure of natural origin that has been used not only by bees but also by humans for thousands of years due to its antimicrobial effects, among other things.
